  3. Our gif only content threads have a rule where all thumbs must be posted as a static thumbnail that does not play. Currently imagebam made a change where they no longer produce static thumbs. Therefore, please do not use imagebam, or any host, that provides live playing gifs in those specific threads. If you see your gif playing once you post, try to use a smaller thumbnail and if that does not work use a different approved host.

Isn't working for me. Most of the members aren't using it, so I still comb through all the threads which have responses hoping to find new content.
Can you append the rules to address this?
Maybe allow the 'adds' tags mods used to do if they come across new content?

I'm not sure what you mean by "button". The "adds" icon is just an image. It's a "post icon"—in vBulletin terms—that can be selected when making a new post. The idea is that it should be used by anybody that is adding new images to an existing post (actually the OP of the thread has to change the first post). But there are a number of reasons both technical and logical why the whole "adds icon" system doesn't work. You can read through the original thread or just trust me and use vBulletin's "subscription" feature instead.

When you come upon a thread you like and want to keep tabs on:

    • Click "Thread tools > Subscribe to this thread" just above the first post of the page.
    • When you first sign in to Phun or otherwise want to check your subscriptions go to your "User CP" by clicking "Settings" in the top, right corner of the page.
    • Threads will be listed there when they've been replied to—it doesn't necessarily mean new pics, just new replies.
    • At the far right for each thread, under the poster and to the right of the date, there's a blue arrow icon. Clicking that takes you to the latest post made. It might not be a post with pics, but it's quicker and more reliable just to check yourself than to rely on the adds icon.
    • You can then tweak your settings to change whether you get emails for your subscriptions (I recommend the "control panel only" option) or edit that on a subscription by subscription basis.

Thanks for the suggestion. In theory, the adds icon is a good idea. If utilized, it is certainly a time saver. I'm mostly interested in new content to a post and not so much the talking, so having something that indicates that in the thread title is nice while browsing the new posts.

The idea of an icon or something alerting you to only the new content you are interested in (pics) sounds nice. But even beyond the vBulletin-specific problems, it requires human editorial work. Even if it's not you, somebody still has to confirm that it contains new and relevant pics (not smilies or a joke of some kind) and then manually add the icon. This pretty much guarantees that these icons won't be kept up to date. And it only works for the first set of adds anyway.

So it sounds like a nice feature, but it's a flawed theory when you consider the implementation details.
