i hope she goes to the dark side. that would make a more interesting story line plus she would be a bad ass villian

The last movie was basically a thinly veiled rehash of A New Hope. I suspect this one won't be all that different from The Empire Strikes Back. It will end with her parentage revealed, yet ambiguous.

The various possibilities had so much potential. Shame they didn't exploit any. Rogue One was pretty cool though, so perhaps the stand-alone flicks will continue to redeem the franchise to some extent.

 

Apparently her parents are revealed in Battlefront 2.At least that's the word.I haven't played it yet.

Rey going to the Darkside is to predictable.I think the trailers want us to believe that, but in reality she is just trying to find the location of snoke for the Rebels. him calling her through the force is just their way to him.

 

Of course it will be a "remake" of Empire Strikes Back... what else you expect from JJ Abrams? Just look at his Star Trek movies... they're all "remakes" of original ones: first to introduce case, second to deal with Khan, third have Enterprise destroyed (and involve a missing Starfleet personal!), forth will deal with time travel...

 

I don't play video games so I wouldn't know about that.

Possibly. Sounds reasonable. yawn. I'll still waste money to see it in the theater, because regardless of the predictable plot, the visuals are guaranteed to be cutting edge and spectacular.

Abrams has nothing to do with it. Disney told him what they wanted and he delivered.

The Bond movies keep getting remade as well. Probably the first franchise to do so.

 

That might explain similarity between Force Awakens and New Hope, but Disney had nothing to do with Star Trek movies and Abrams still choose to more or less follow the original set of movies with each "new" one using elements from "older ones".

"Star Trek Motion Picture" and "Star Trek" serve to introduce cast, "Wrath of Khan" and "Into Darkness" deal with Khan Noonien Singh (and Kirk sacrifice himself in ID much the same way Spock did in Wrath!) , "Search for Spock" and "Beyond" deal with lost (believed dead) Starfleet officer and destruction of Enterprise, "Voyage Home" and currently unnamed sequel will deal with time travel with crew going back in time and it made me wonder what he'll do with potential fifth installment considering "Final Frontier" is possibly worst movie in franchise...

 

True. But then TNG hit on elements of the original series. DS9 and Voyager often mimicked TNG. While there's no denying Abrams influence on the franchise, he didn't originate the pattern. Hollywood has been ripping itself off since forever. "Go with what you know (makes money). Mimicry is the greatest form of flattery. Give the people what they want." etc, etc, blah, blah, blah. Nothing new to see here, move along. Or as I prefer, More of the Same, coming soon to a theater near you. I mean seriously, when was the last new plot in a Rom-Com? Pretty much if you're in the market for creative and fresh storytelling, you have to pick up a book.

 

J.J. Abrams isn't directing this, nor did he come up with the story. It's mostly all Rian Johnson and Disney/Lucasfilm exes. So, hopefully it'll be good. I didn't really care for The Force Awakens but I loved Rogue One.
