Ellen Page Reveals She is Gay (2/14/14)

In a speech at the Time to Thrive conference Friday, actress Ellen Page came out as gay. “I’m here today because I am gay,” she told the audience of LGBT youth at the Bally’s Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

The 26-year old star of “Juno” appears in the upcoming “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”

“I am tired of hiding and I am tired of lying by omission,” Page said. “I suffered for years because I was scared to be out. My spirit suffered, my mental health suffered and my relationships suffered. And I’m standing here today, with all of you, on the other side of all that pain.”

The sponsor of the conference, Human Rights Campaign, tweeted “Congratulations @EllenPage for taking the steps to live openly and come out as lesbian.”

She told the audience she felt a personal obligation and a social responsibility to be honest. “Maybe I can help others to have an easier time. I am tired of hiding,” she said.

If you watch the video, you can see how nervous she is about coming out. It's a shame people have to live in such fear like that.

You know, you might be dead-on with the cynical paycheck and staying relevant thing. But then ther eis the possibility that she might totally be aware of how she looks/seems/acts/comes across... and I might bet on that she sometimes doesn't care about it all, but in Filmland, this is practically impossible. Every inch of those 20 year old people is usually controlled and manufactured to feed (male) interest and hype. You know, I WANNA FUCK DAT BITCH. There are singer nowadays who just bend over in a kind-of-thong, look back to the crowd, all the while they perform. So they want to feed that image. And sometimes it looks hot and caters to a certain crowd.

Now someone like Ellen, if she is at a casting or in some similar situation you can bet she is now a shitton more comfortable with people *not* thinking why she isn't acting like the next wannabe sexy chick who is waiting for her break. So cut her some slack. And every other gay person. Do not think other people buy that it's a non-issue, that you can pretend there is no "fear" for LG...BT? people.

So her over the top announcement is not only for herself, it's a signal to those who *acutally* really live in fear. I kinda doubt that in day-to-day situations in Hollywood you have the same pressure as in schools or corporate environments, except for those aforementioned casting things or something. Again, I kind of don't care, but you made me.

No one cares if she came out. Its not like if Elizabeth Taylor came back to life and then came out. That would be a story. Ellen Page is not even worthy of a mention.
