OK seriously... how about some answers?

Not demanding answers, but simply asking for them - the hell is going on with connectivity to Phun?

I think today is one of the worst - ever other minute, I'm getting a 502/504 error for the past 3-4 hours.

It's been a month and half since the "upgrade" - can we get some sort of explanation as to why this is happening so much at this point? Is there anything we can do on our own end (i.e. prefetching) or is this totally out of our fingers?

If I'm bitching and moaning... well, yeah, I am bitching and moaning, especially since I was hoping to get some quality Phun time with no work and no gf to bitch and moan at me. :|

Mods, if this issue has been answered and addressed already, apologies in advance. I may have inadvertently missed it due to said 502/504 issues.

 

addressed? often - here, in various threads and in talks" with the hoster.
answered? well... in terms of "solved" - obviously not.

as for no we have:
- a suggestion by the hoster to add some ram to the servers (ridiculous price - enough for a complete server) - useful? well, what good is a ferrari without tires?
- the idea to switch to DCM (Distributed Content Management). let`s say we are hesitant for some reasons.
- customize the vbulletin-code is supposed to be in the making. some say that phun is a little too big for default vbulletin. arguable. doubt we are the biggest vbulletin-forum ever...

and of course we are pestering the hoster with mails, but as for now they aren`t really flooding us with replies.

They apparently decided to "stop by" this afternoon, yet there's no improvement. I'm done giving you guys bullshit responses when I have no answers for you such as "it's being worked on", "bear with us", etc, etc, etc, ad nauseam. All of you deserve better than that, and I'm just as pissed, and fed up with the whole situation as you are. Maybe you guys will have better luck.

The gateway errors, timeouts, double posts, and the rest aren't exclusive to just you guys I assure you.

Phun is definitely big... but if you guys know of Freeones.com, they went through the same upgrade not too long ago and, so far as I can tell, they've had none of the problems whatsoever. And I'm pretty sure Freeones is way way bigger than Phun. :|

Hrm... maybe I'll have to do what Andy DuFrense did in the Shawshank Redemption... no, not crawl through a river of shit (though that analogy could apply here as well). Maybe write an email to isprime.com, spread the word of how shitty their service is and pester them every day until the fix the goddamn problems. :33:

I can't not respond to these questions mokk. As I've stated on several occasions, you gents are the lifeblood of this place, and deserve the truth.

As well as being a "hard ass" red, I'm also a sub/flight/train sim geek, and many of the sites/forums that I frequent to snag tasty files/add ons are currently purring like a kitten with the same vbulletin software that @ phun encourages alcohol, and drug abuse amongst those that would like to peruse, and/or post. Again.....look to the host.

Civil disobedience sometimes produces the desired results. Not unlike Andy, I'd like to think we've fought the good fight. Let's just hope the "end" result isn't like his. :wink:

Yesterday evening i was sooo happy about Phun beeing very fast ... for a while !
What a great feeling it was !

Sorry to say, but today it`s not funny at all !

 

How many hosters were available at the time of the upgrade? Do they all use V-Bulletin?

 

Yesterday wasnt particularly fun for most of us. As far as i know the hoster was on two days ago with a few fixtures. Those of us that was in the igloo at the time experienced lightning speed. Yesterday that was all gone i had countless 504 timeout. The hoster is monitoring the few fixes to see what they might resolve as far as i can tell things are better without them. Then again im only a simple "phunner" not to familiar with how a forum software should run.

The idea of moving to a different hoster has probably crossed Caynes mind but as he mentioned yesterday it is pretty much like standing on the edge of a volcano. He has no clue whether a new hoster actually has any idea of what he is doing things could get even worse. We are trying to get in touch with persons higher up the foodchain since the average soldier in the help center seems a bit lost at how to solve the numerous issues we have here.

 

Wow, sounds like a mess... Good luck getting things resolved, guys. I've hosted a small site for a number of years, and I know how frustrating it is when you're having hosting issues and unable to get the hoster to do anything about it. Pain in the ass, really.

 

Appreciate all the responses and hard work going on behind the scene to fix these issues, but I do have to admit that this new upgrade is driving me nuts!.

With the new upgrade, it takes me almost 2-4 minutes just to post a set, browsing threads is almost impossible, hell, it even takes over 20 seconds to just push the thanks button before I can move on....

It aint phun's size. It's the hosts inability to setup it's network.

Those gateway errors and timeouts? They aint phun, they're misconfigured routers or screwed up virtual networks, got nothing to do with phun. The 2x posts ARE phun, but hey, if the host cant setup up basic connectivity, why would you be surprised at database screwups?

The Forum has been INSUFFERABLY slow to load pages for me for the past day and a half to the point of ridiculousness and when I DO get a page to load and attempt to post a comment or a new thread it is almost impossible to get it to finish and I get the ubiquitous "leave this page" query. I love Phun but the problems don't seem to be getting better, in fact for me they are getting worse AND it looks to me like HUGE numbers of members are gone and new members are not replacing them, I know I know, it's been discussed but it seems MUCH worse to me in the last 2 weeks.

glad to see/read some positive comments after this long period of bad performance. I just can say that we're constantly working on the servers and I try my best to make this forum work as fast as possible. keep us posted on how the performance looks on your end! thanks! and thanks for your patience as well!
